Would you believe us if we told you that Amir Sadollah never had a professional MMA fight before he won Season 7 of "The Ultimate Fighter"? That’s kind of like some guy off the street smacking a home run into the upper deck against Justin Verlander in his first at bat despite having no major league baseball experience. Well, that's exactly what Amir Sadollah did when he entered the TUF house back in 2008. With nothing but an amateur career and some lethal limbs attached to his 5-foot-11 frame, Sadollah polished off each opponent in his way and kept all of his fights out of the hands of the judges. Pretty damn impressive.

But a rash of injuries would slow down the A-Train, and the rising star was brought back down to earth with losses to Johnny Hendricks and Dong Hyun Kim. But a rousing victory over DaMarques Johnson at UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis has people talking about Amir Sadollah again. At UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle, the Persian will face Duane "Bang" Ludwig in a fight that is sure to have fireworks. Read More...

In honor of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" mauling its competition this past weekend with $54 million at the box office, despite featuring CGI apes that look faker than the '60s originals, SportsPop is honoring the greatest animal-athletes in sports movies. Now, as a means to separate the alphas from the pack, I ask the following question: "Would I want them on my fantasy team?" That means Air Bud doesn't make the cut. While it's impressive a dog can compete on a high school basketball team, he isn't a superstar of NBA caliber. Buddy continued on in the film franchise to play football, soccer, baseball and beach volleyball, but everyone knows an athlete is always best at their first sport. Tony Romo losing golf matches to soap opera stars and Michael Jordan playing baseball proves that. Read More...

Nothing excites an MMA crowd like a man knocking another man unconscious. Whether by kick to the head, flying knee or some old-fashioned knuckle sandwiches, the crowd always erupts like Oprah just gave out free cars. Over the first half of 2011, there have been a lot of thrilling knockouts on "Bellator Fighting Championships" on MTV2 and it's hard to grade which chin-obliterating shot is better than the next, but we did anyway. Here are our half-year Bellator Top 5 Knockouts. Read More...

A day in the life of a 5-year-old usually consists of cartoons, toys and learning important skills like reading, writing and arithmetic. A day in the life of 5-year-old Chad Mendes, however, consisted of drills, wrestling singlets and learning important skills like how to execute a perfect-form takedown. You see, Chad "Money" Mendes has been wrestling ever since he was a wee lad, and those years dominating on the mat helped the 26-year-old amass an impressive 10-0 record in his three years as an MMA fighter who is on the cusp of a UFC featherweight title fight with current champion Jose Aldo. And he's got his dad to thank for it.

"I was a very hyper kid and my dad wrestled in his high school years so he got me into it," Mendes says. However, the wrestling that he thought he would be participating in was more of the Hulk Hogan variety rather than what he ended up seeing in the gym. "I actually still remember going to my very first wrestling practice. On my way to the gym I just thought it was going to be like professional wrestling. I was going to walk in and see the big ring with the turnbuckles. But all I saw were wrestling mats, and I said to myself 'What the hell?'" Read More...
