A collective groan swept the MMA world when the lineup for UFC 138 in Birmingham, England, was initially announced. After all of the spectacular cards that featured top-tier fighters that we've seen over the past few months, the casual fight fan whined and complained when a Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz main event was underlined by a bunch of English blokes and newbies to the UFC. Oh, poor us. We got a free UFC card and were unhappy when it didn't have the biggest names in MMA. Greedy bastards. Cry us a river, build a bridge and get over it. Better yet, if you actually watched UFC 138 you would realize that it packed more fireworks than the Las Vegas strip on the Fourth of July. At any rate, read on to learn our favorite moments from a night full of knockouts and submissions, and then apologize for trying to diss one of the better cards of 2011.

There once was a time when consistently awesome MMA action didn't happen every week. What poor bastards we were back then, right? Because over the next month or so, UFC and Bellator Fighting Championships both have great fights scheduled every weekend. We need to clone ourselves just so we can watch multiple fights at the same time. Since UFC 137 and Bellator 56 had so much great action, we're introducing The Clutch MMA Awards--where we award those truly amazing moments from the weekend.

Despite the megafight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz Carlos Condit being scratched due to GSP's injury, the UFC card still kicked ass. And as bloodthirsty Americans, we love to see heavyweights and finishes. "Bellator" 56 delivered both with two mountains of men smashing their foes in spectacular fashion. Read on to learn our favorite moments from both.

In the MMA world, menacing nicknames are a prerequisite for being a badass. Obviously, some nicknames induce more fear than others. There's Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, a nickname that (accurately) suggests a lunatic. On the other hand, there are fellas like Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg, who sounds more likely to get busy alongside Patrick Swayze in "Dirty Dancing" than hand out a beat down. And then there are some nicknames that go above and beyond "intimidation." They're names that are downright disturbing and keep children awake at night--scared "The Crippler" or "The Meat Cleaver" might pop out of their closet. In the spirit of Halloween, MTV Clutch presents the nicknames that are really, genuinely, horrifying.

If Roy Nelson walked into a room and said, "I'm a mixed martial artist," most would spit their Starbucks on the floor in laughter. However, those who know better are well aware that big-bellied "Big Country" may not look the part, but he'll hand you a beat down just the same. As "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 10 winner prepares to step into the cage with living legend Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 137 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the heavyweight BJJ black belt spoke to MTV Clutch about his dashing looks, a second job as Santa Claus and the secret ninja training he's been doing in preparation for his fight this Saturday.

A split decision in MMA is like winning a soccer or hockey game by shootout. Unfortunately, the boxing commission has yet to respond to our request to decide close matches by a round of no-cup rochambeau yet...so the two bantamweight semifinal matches at Bellator 55 this past Saturday resulted in two razor thin split decisions.

Eduardo Dantas vs. Ed West

Eduardo Dantas is a 22-year-old phenom who made his pro debut at 18 in his homeland of Brazil. Ed "Wild" West is 27 and was the runner up in Bellator's Season 3 tournament, losing in the finals when current champ Zach Markovosky wrestled him into the mat for five rounds. West throws a lot of spinning and jumping kicks that are fun to watch, while Dantas likes a straight-up brawl. And the first two rounds of this fight were awesome. Dantas cracked West squarely about halfway through the first and it looked like he'd be done when Dantas stacked him and pounded him. But West snuck under, almost got an arm bar, managed to force his way to stand up from it and finished the round tattooing Dantas' face. Good stuff. This is what bantamweight is about, the ping-pong to the heavier weight classes' tennis.

Violence!  This is what we wanted and that is what fighters delivered in spades for the middleweight semifinals at "Bellator" 54 this last Saturday in Atlantic City.

#1. Tim Carpenter gives Ryan Contaldi a boxing lesson lesson.

Tim: "Hey Ryan, you probably shouldn't put your head down like that when throwing a jab."
Ryan: "Nuh-uh. I'm awesome."
Tim: "OK, well, allow me please disabuse you of this sentiment."

We fired up the Clutch crystal ball today and found three things we're really looking forward to at "Bellator" 54, live on MTV2 this Saturday, Oct. 15 10/9c.

1. Alexander Shlemenko hits Brian Rogers hard that his dreadlocks fall out.
Seriously son, get a haircut. Maybe we're a little sentimental for the no-holds-barred days of Royce Gracie hanging onto Kimo Leopoldo's ponytail at UFC 3 for two minutes, but a hair-spectacular move seems long overdue. Despite Brian Rogers' unfortunate hair style choices, he's a dynamic fighter and finished his last seven fights in a first round TKO/KO. Alexander Shlemenko is a Russian kickboxing specialist, has a record of 41-7 and will be Rogers' first real test.

2. Vitor Vianna pulls a Mortal Kombat-style fatality move on Bryan Baker.
We're hoping the crystal ball is wrong here. Bryan Baker seems like a solid dude: proposing to his girlfriend after he KO’d Joe Riggs at "Bellator" 43 and his TKO upset over Jared Hess. It's hard not to root for the 25-year-old kid. But Vitor Vianna is a Wanderlei Silva-trained Brazilian monster, and he's a favorite to win the whole tournament for a reason.

3. Zach Makovsky makes Ryan Roberts cry and rethink every choice he's ever made.
Ryan Roberts technically fought in the UFC (his one fight, three years ago, lasted 16 seconds) so it can be argued that this isn't a "squash match." Maybe. But in reality, Zach Makovsky has no one else to fight, so he's giving some poor chump a Rocky-esque chance...without the "Eye of the Tiger" montage. Since this isn't a movie, if the poor chump gets his head caved in, then it'll be good for Makovsky's highlight reel.

The worlds of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts have more than a few similarities. Both feature sweaty men in little shorts slamming each other around until one is beaten beyond recognition as a rabid crowd cheers on. The key difference is pro wrestling has staged confrontations and predictable outcomes while MMA has real blood and real fighting. However, some MMA fighters have a little "WWE" running through their veins and it often comes out in post fight interviews. Take, for instance, Chael Sonnen calling out Anderson Silva right after Sonnen's impressive victory over Brian Stann at UFC 136. It's the type of stuff pro wrestling fans gush over. From his berating of the Brazilian to throwing down a "loser leaves" stipulation, Sonnen had us wanting to chant his name in unison when he was finished (click here to watch). This outburst got us thinking about other MMA fighters who have the theatrical chops to become a WWE superstar. After combing through hours of trash talk and awkward promos, we found 10 fighters who must make Vince McMahon salvate.
