Sure, in most states it's "legal" to go to a club and meet women by yourself, but you're better off bringing some company. Same goes for hip-hop music: life's easier when you have someone helping you with your dirty work, whether it be counting cash, throwing cash or doing something else with cash.

That's why if you look at the 2012 Video Music Award nominations for Best Hip-Hop Video, four of the five songs have more than one artist. Having a wingman, like having a featured artist, just makes sense. Here are four reasons why, based on the Best Hip-Hop Video nominees:

Both compliment your image.

Look, Drake's a good looking guy. We can all agree with that. Drake especially would agree with that. But Drake's image is a lot like his haircut: nice and clean. And women like bad boys (thus the popularity of the movie franchise "Bad Boys"), so if you're clean cut, it can behoove you to have a wingman with a little edge. Maybe a guy with long hair, some tattoos… maybe he did a little jail time. Drake knows what I'm talking about. It also doesn't hurt to get a "Lil" guy either. Makes you look taller.

There's a "Mama Said Knock You Out" joke in here somewhere. A man broke into LL Cool J's house, and the rapper-turned-TV-star (aren't they all?) beat the living piss out of the guy. LL reportedly heard a noise in his kitchen in the middle of the night, and when he entered the room an intruder "came at him." Why would you come at LL Cool J? Dude is jacked!

In a "knock-down, drag-out fight" LL proceeded to break the guy's nose and jaw, and then restrained him until police arrived. Guess all that fake police training for "NCIS: Los Angeles" really paid off. LL is unharmed and won't be charged with assault, but man, terrifying scenario, right? This could've been much worse.

It also really makes us want to see a brawl between the two buffest throwback MC's around: LL Cool J and Dr. Dre. Who ya got?

Iconic '80s rapper Biz Markie became an MTV staple thanks to "Just A Friend," and recently he has appeared on MTV2's "Hip Hop Squares." You already know the Clown Prince's hit, and you probably know he's a nasty beatboxer. But you probably didn't know these seven little nuggets about Marcel Theo Hall.

1. He is the reason all samples must be cleared with the work's original artist. After sampling a song on "Alone Again," he was taken to court by the original songwriter and the resultant case, Grand Upright Music, Ltd. v. Warner Bros. Records Inc., established that samples must be approved by the copyright holder.

Just last week, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope of Insane Clown Posse schooled us on the Juggalo Code. Despite all their horrorcore lyrics and menacing clown facepaint, the Juggalo Code is all about community and positive energy, a lifestyle where anyone is welcome to join (it's no surprise their annual festival is known as The Gathering). But the FBI recently and hilariously deemed the Juggalos a gang. While Faygo-chugging clowns seem like a gang you'd see in "The Warriors," nobody in real life sees these guys as a threat. A nuisance, perhaps, but not even in the same universe as actual gangs like MS-13.

So ICP told the Village Voice that they had to do "the American thing" and sue the FBI. It's fitting when you think about it: this movement has always been about doing what you want and not what "the Man" tells you you want, and now it's actually taking on the Man. Like, the biggest Man. Juggalos are widely misunderstood and mocked, but this move has gained them a lot of sympathizers. Essentially, by trying to defuse the Juggalo movement, the FBI has only ensured that it will grow.

There's only one place this weekend where P.O.D., Three 6 Mafia and Scott Disick are all welcome: the 13th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos in Cave-in-Rock, IL. The five-day event hosts tons of big name musicians, comedians and contests. And, OK, the kind-of-Kardashian-through-marriage that we love-to-hate probably won't be there. But if he showed up, popped hot pink collar and all, it's Juggalo Code to accept him.

"Everybody's accepted," the Insane Clown Posse told us. "Even if you come looking like Scott. If you're at the gathering, people are going to automatically have love for you. No matter who you are or where you're from, no matter how busted or broken you are, everybody's welcome. Everybody's there to escape. That's the Juggalo Guy Code."

Watch the video above to hear the rest of the Juggalo Code, and if you can't attend the Gathering, have no fear! Check out the where you can watch it online.

Lil Wayne is taking a break from the rap game to work on his kickflips. Seriously, the Young Money founder told Atlanta's Hot 107.9 yesterday that he's giving himself-- and his fans --a music break in order to recharge, by focusing on skateboarding. This isn't the first time rap and skateboarding have cross-pollinated (see: Odd Future), but it's gotta be the first time a major star stepped away from rhyming for the love of the rails.

On the other hand, a few stars have crossed over from boarding into showbiz. Here are the four best examples.

1. Jason Lee

Before "Mallrats" and "My Name Is Earl," he was a pro skateboarder, and he even had an Airwalk signature line.

All week long MTV will be sitting down with the biggest names in rap to preview the year's most anticipated hip-hop albums. First up is Maybach Music Group bawse Rick Ross, whose record, God Forgives, I Don't, drops on July 31.

If you've seen the cover of the album, your first question is probably, "What's the right amount of Jesus pieces to flash on an album cover?" Well, serving as the Tootsie Pop owl in this particular scenario, Rick Ross lets us in on the answer: 10. You can wear 10 Jesus pieces on an album cover before you start looking like Mr. T.

Ross says the album is "a motion picture, a masterpiece, five-star." That's some Kanye-level confidence right there! As for his influences on the album, it's everything from his post-seizure pineapple diet (seriously, "diced pineapple" never sounded so badass) to the unequivocally badass "Inglourious Basterds." Watch the interview below to get the full preview of Rozay's sure-to-be-huge new album.

There are zombies, and there is the resistance. The resistance fights zombies by flaunting their individuality and generally acting "fresh." This is the premise of the infomercial for "The 13th Annual The Gathering of the Juggalos." It's all a nuanced allegory, you see. Zombies = mainstreamers/sellouts, and the resistance = Juggalos. (Nothing says "underground" like Jamie Kennedy, who is performing this year, right? Eh just go with it.)

The Insane Clown Posse-fronted carnival of Faygo, horrorcore, drugs and dirt takes place every year in some muddy field and features myriad clown-faced performers cheered on by myriad clown-faced attendees. And there's always an oddly legit mix of hip-hop--this year features acts like Danny Brown, The Geto Boys, The Pharcyde and Warren G.

We always look forward to watching each year's infomercial, because it always shatters records for how many times you'll say "Um, WHAT?" in one sitting. We've watched the whole 23-minute trailer (23 minutes! No way Faygo-addled brains have the attention span to get through it all) so you don't have to. But you still should. We've embedded it below, plus 10 things you need to know about this vortex of awesomeness known as the Gathering of the Juggalos infomercial.

We previously mentioned the August Summer Mixtape Festival in these parts because of its blast-from-the-past ambassador Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber). The fest is a nostalgist's dream not just because of her, though. In addition to some other retro acts, it's got New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys performing together as the boy band supergroup to end all boy band supergroups, NKOTBSB.

We love the acronym-ization, but unlike your girlfriends, we wouldn't really be all too excited to see that show. So, inspired by their savvy money-grab and clever naming device, we came up with a bunch of nostalgic hip-hop group mash-ups that we actually would pay money to see. Synergy is a good thing.
