Forget the teddy bears holding stuffed pink hearts. Forget the chalky candies with their oh-so-witty declarations of love. And most importantly, forget that ex-girlfriend--she was lame.
Instead of obsesssing over those trite reminders of Valentine's, watch this trailer for Joey Garfield's street art documentary "A Love Letter for You" and think of how much you love the murals of Philly's notorious graffiti artist, Stephen "ESPO" Powers. Inspired by the Philly graffiti legend Cornbread, who blasted walls in the 60s with messages of love to his girlfriend, ESPO painted a series of hope-filled, community-funded murals on 50 rooftops for "A Love Letter for You," while Garfield wove in the fictional narrative of FIRE, a young graffiti king on a quest to win back the love of his ex-girlfriend. Don't go getting ideas from FIRE. Remember, your girl was lame and today's just another day like every other.
