Escaped Prisoner Turns Self In Because It’s Too Cold Outside

Subzero temperatures are breaking winter records across much of the country this week, so you want to be inside wearing multiple layers right now, not outside wearing a prison jumpsuit. That’s exactly why 42-year-old convicted burglar Robert Vick volunteered to go back to the nice, toasty slammer yesterday, according to authorities.

Police in Lexington, Kentucky say that after Vick ran away from the minimum-security Blackburn Correctional Complex, he suffered hypothermia from the minus-20° F windchill, entered a nearby motel and asked the receptionist to call 911.

“This was definitely of his own volition,” a police spokesperson told reporters. “It’s cold out there, too cold to run around. I can understand why [he] would turn himself in.”

Vick can look forward to several more years of hard time, but at least it’s heated time. You can mix a hot toddy with toilet wine, right?
