The upside of living in Hawaii is that you're surrounded by pristine coastline. This can also be the downside, if you're a dumbass.
According to police, 38-year-old Kauai resident Norman Akana Jr. was hammered behind the wheel of his Ford F-150 Saturday at 4pm. Visibility must've been poor along Lydgate Beach that afternoon, 'cause Akana allegedly navigated the vehicle straight out to sea.
It took a few tow trucks to get the 6,000-pound pickup back to dry land. Police arrested Akana for suspicion of DUI, reckless driving and refusing a Breathalyzer. Fortunately he didn't injure himself or anyone else, shellfish possibly excluded.
(Dude, The Beach Boys had songs about cars and surfing, but they weren't suggesting you combine the two.)
