Turns out drunk elephants behave exactly like many drunk guys: unruly, aggressive and desirous of more booze. According to Metro UK, a herd of 50 elephants in India recently sniffed out moonshine at a village shop and drank the place dry -- more than 500 liters -- in only minutes. Then the big fellas wrecked some homes in an effort to find more drink. Poor planning by the elephant social chair.
This isn't a one-off event. Elephants are known to drink and party. "Unfortunately these animals live in close proximity to man and they recognized the smell of the drink," a local police officer said. "They'll have one heck of a hangover."
Five years ago in another Indian village, a large group of elephants found and drank several drums of beer and got bombed. Tragically, six of them died after they uprooted a utility pole and electrocuted themselves. So, like humans, elephants need to drink responsibly.
