Public shaming is the best kind of shaming! A judge in Cleveland, Ohio dished out a healthy dose of it yesterday to a woman caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to get around a school bus that was unloading children. Now she'll have to spend two mornings wearing a sign at an intersection, saying, "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."
Brilliant move by the judge. The woman also had her license suspended for 30 days and paid court costs, $250 she'll soon forget, but hot damn -- she'll always remember that court-ordered shaming for dumbassery. A broader question: Should courts use this type of punishment more? Do we want people on every street corner at a certain hour of the day announcing all the horrible things they've done? It would make for a more amusing commute, unless you're one of the dopes wearing a sandwich board.
