Hall-of-Fame baseball player Yogi Berra once said, "Ninety percent of this game is half mental." While Yogi's math is a little convoluted, the underlying message is important and applicable to all sports: the difference between winners and losers is often the head game; those who consistently succeed tend to possess unshakable confidence and are usually long on mental fortitude.

And as fans, we all love those glorious storybook moments when a stud player makes a bold claim and then goes HAM with spectacular results. We also love, albeit in a different way, those occasions when someone overstates their chances or abilities and then fails miserably--and humorously. Here are five examples of pro athletes getting a little too big for their britches.

5. Matt Hasselbeck's Overtime Prediction

Matt Hasselbeck wins the award for the douchiest, most unoriginal thing ever said before totally choking. If you're going to talk smack, at least give us something entertaining or caustic — not a line that essentially restates the objective of the f**k*ng game. His epic pick-6 to Green Bay Packers defender Al Harris cost the Seattle Seahawks a playoff game.

4. Robin Ventura Gets Owned by Nolan Ryan

Surely as Robin Ventura was charging the mound, he was thinking he would pummel old man Nolan Ryan, who was nearly twice Ventura's age at the time. Instead, Ryan shows why he's the poster man for the expression, "Don't Mess with Texas".

3. Tom Brady's Awful Dancing

Tom Brady can pull off a lot of things. Dancing at a Brazilian music festival while sporting a ponytail is not one of them. His effeminate wiggles make him that much more hateable.

2. Mike Tyson's Rant

Mike Tyson's psychotic rambling is so bizarre and incomprehensible, it's terrifying. However, Lennox Lewis wasn't the least bit phased and knocked-out Tyson in a heavyweight title bout a few years later. We guess Tyson wins the award for CRAZIEST thing ever said before totally choking.

Brett Favre got pretty cocky (literally) when he hit New York Jets employee Jenn Sterger with pics of his pigskin. Just another example of a pro athlete going too Favre  far.
