Teen rapper Kitty Pryde blew up last month with her video for "OK Cupid"--the song sounds like a wizard cast a spell on a junior-high girl's notebook and it started rapping. Though it hasn't quite reached "Gucci Gucci" viral levels, the song quickly garnered buzz in the burgeoning world of Internet hip-hop. And so a few days ago saw the premiere for Kitty's video with fellow walking meme Riff Raff ("Orion's Belt") and Stereogum just named Kitty's Haha, I'm Sorry their Mixtape Of The Week.
The most shocking thing about Kitty Pryde's ascent is, of course, that she's a ginger. Gingers are the one sect that have yet to really make a statement in the hip-hop world. Beastie Boys broke the glass synagogue ceiling, guys like Donald Glover gave nerds a home in the genre, Lil B opened the door for deity-MCs and Karmin for slumming music students. And now, finally, gingers are having their hip-hop moment. So read on to see the full list of gingers who, against all odds, made it in the rap game.
