In another dazzling display of nauseating teenage romance, Justin Bieber rented a helicopter on Saturday to fly him and his girlfriend Selena Gomez over Niagara Falls to Ontario. Bieber is clearly into big gestures; last year, he rented out the Staples Center in Los Angeles for a private screening of "Titanic" for Gomez. All this from the kid who sings lyrics like "I can be your Buzz Lightyear" and "chillin' by the fire while we eatin' fondue."
Bieber clearly likes to drop serious dough to swoon Gomez but, while he definitely pulls out all the stops for her, the following famous men orchestrated even bigger, more-sweeping romantic gestures than the boy prince of pop.
If you're a Belieber, remember to watch "Bieber Live" on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:30 ET/PT on MTV.
1. Keeping Warm with Seal
When Seal proposed to supermodel Heidi Klum, he chartered a helicopter to the top of the Canadian Rockies. There they stayed in a specially-built igloo housing a bed, roses and champagne. Thankfully, Klum said yes, otherwise that would've been a really awkward trip back down the mountain.
2. Lunch with Ian Somerhalder
The "Vampire Diaries" Ian Somerhalder told Glamour that he once flew a girl to Paris just for a lunch date. Apparently, a transatlantic flight for croissants doesn't cut it, though; Somerhalder said that it didn't work out with the seemingly high-maintenance girl.
3. Sin City with George Clooney
Clooney is known to take his ladies on opulent cruises and vacations, but he once reportedly spent $40,000 on a date with his now ex-girlfriend, cocktail waitress Sarah Larson. Clooney followed up dinner and a Cirque de Soleil show by renting out the Sky Villa at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Tower in Las Vegas, which includes an indoor waterfall, a rotating bed, mirrored ceilings, a swimming pool, a massage room and plasma TVs. But really, what else would you expect from him?
4. Playtime with Ryan Gosling
Reliving his former days as a Mouseketeer, Gosling has taken former girlfriends Kat Dennings and Blake Lively, as well as current girlfriend Eva Mendes, on dates to Disneyland. It's not exactly the most luxurious destination, but girls love it. Plus, how many women can say they've gone with a Mouseketeer? We applaud Gosling for keeping it cool and unique.
5. Flying with Tom Cruise
Katie Holmes told In Style that Cruise once took on her for a ride in a World War II fighter plane, a P-51 Mustang, that had the words 'Kiss Me, Kate' painted on the side. What, Bieber, you couldn't splurge on a little bit of paint for your copter?
