For a hot minute this morning, "Ghetto Girls" by Bow Wow was trending on Twitter because MTV Jams decided to bust out the 2001 music video today. It reminded us how much we dug Bow Wow when he was still "Lil." The track is great...but as fun as the music video is, it doesn't make much sense, especially the closing basketball montage.
Let's start with the fact that Bow Wow was only 13 years old at the time, yet most of the video vixens surrounding him are well past adulthood. This music video could be part of the reason so many male students began sleeping with their teachers in the following decade. Didn't Bow Wow's mom have concerns about her young son spraying down these full-grown women with his hose? Or is that his mom driving him in the Dodge Prowler?
The video ends by showing off how awesome Bow Wow is at dribbling a basketball. What the hell does that have to do with Ghetto Girls? The video must have doubled as the young rapper's campaign to play in the NBA All Star Celebrity Game.
