The Persistence Of Antoine Dodson

Do you remember Antoine Dodson? In 2010, NBC affiliate WAFF-48 News interviewed him after a late-night intruder broke into his sister’s bedroom. In his sassy interview, Antoine, spoke directly to the camera and said things such as:

“Well obviously we have a rapist in Lincoln Park he’s climbing in yo windows snatching yo people up trying to rape them so y’all need to hide yo kids hide yo wife and hide yo husband ’cause they’re raping everybody out here!”

We wonder how many people hid their husbands? Dodson then addressed the perpetrator directly:

“We got yo T-shirt we got yo fingerprints and all that. You are so dumb. You are really dumb for real…”

“You don’t have to come and confess we’re looking for you. We gonna find you I’ll tell you know that! So you can run and tell that, homeboy!”

His interview quickly went viral and became an internet sensation. The Gregory Brothers created a strangely catchy Auto-Tuned song called “Bed Intruder Song,” which appeared at 89 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was later covered by Dane Cook, the Ohio State Marching Band and Hayley Williams of Paramore. Did Antoine Dodson’s 15 minutes of fame end here? Hell no!

Dodson started a Facebook fan page, got his own ringtone, started a T-shirt line, did a television commercial for “Tosh.0″ and created a best-selling “Bed Intruder” Halloween costume, which consisted of a black wifebeater, a crazy black wig and a red handkerchief. His net worth is reportedly $50,000. We’re not sure how accurate that is, but we do know that Dodson made enough money to buy a home and move his family out of the projects.

Unfortunately, 2011 was not as sweet to Antoine. He was booked in April on a charge of possession of marijuana in the second degree, charged with speeding, not having liability insurance and failure to appear on two past traffic violations.

This year Antoine is launching a comeback. A comeback? We don’t know what else to call it. In February, Dodson released a video for his new song “Lovesick Lullaby.” After only a month, it already has more than 250,000 views. He has been traveling constantly, making club appearances, working in recording studios and performing in a new web-only TV show.

Who knew a break-in could lead to a break into the industry? We do not suggest this career path for any other aspiring artist out there.

WARNING: The bed intruder has not been caught, he’s still on the loose waiting for you to stop hiding your kids, wife and husband.
