The first ever meeting between the Seattle Mist and Green Bay Chill has not been dubbed the Mother Nature Bowl, but it could be. You know what happens when women representing two cold-weather cities battle on the gridiron inside a dome? That's right--fistfuls of beer and a lot of spray tans. Look for both in the stands when these squads throw down at 10/9c Friday on MTV2.
The Chill have been eager to strap it up again after losing a 28-25 heartbreaker to the Minnesota Valkyrie in the league's opener. The Chill will need some improved tackling from the Leslie Bowman-led defense (get to know Leslie here), an issue that head coach Gilbert Brown stressed following the loss. But with quarterback Anne Erler at the helm of a spread offense, and some talent at the skill positions, they'll try to turn the contest into a shootout.
The Mist, coming off a disappointing 2010-2011 campaign, will open the season gunning for a W. Obviously. But the team went winless last year, so, it's for real. The Mist offense is led by quarterback Angela Rypien, daughter of former Washington Redskins QB and Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien. Like father, like daughter. Rypien has All-Fantasy wideout Jessica Hopkins on the outside and All-Fantasy running back Kam Warner in the backfield. So this squad has some firepower. Like its opponent, the Mist defense, which surrendered an average of 34 points a game last year, is a work in progress. Offensive standouts Hopkins and Warner work double duty in the Mist secondary, so they could be winded late in the game. We're confident by that time the beer will still be flowing in the stands.
