5 School Movie Pranks You’d Be Arrested For Today

It’s almost time to go back to school, kids. Bad news, we know. You’re going to spend another year sort of paying attention to what’s going on, biding your time until graduation. At some point, one of your friends will suggest pulling a prank. While this will sound like an awesome idea–one never thought of by anyone ever before–pranks almost never go unpunished like they do in the movies. If you do decide to pull off an epic prank, don’t use these five high-school movie pranks for inspiration. You’ll end up spending prom night in the clink with a date named Bubba (and Bubba doesn’t slow dance).

“American Graffiti”

The Prank: Ripping the rear axle out of a cop car
“American Graffiti” follows a group of teenagers for one night in the ’50s. It features Richard Dreyfuss, Richie Cunningham from “Happy Days” and is directed by the guy who directed “Star Wars.” As part of a gang initiation, Dreyfuss’ character attaches one side of a chain to the rear axle of a cop car. He and the other gang members then speed past the cops while screaming out the window. The cops take the bait and pull out at full speed, which rips the rear axle off their cop car. That sounds tame for a gang initiation, but remember, it was a much more innocent time–before flash mobs.

“The Breakfast Club”

The Prank: Taping Larry Lester’s buns together
It’s just a locker room prank in the ’80s, but it would nab you sexual assault charges today. School douchebag Andrew Clark (Emilio Estevez) retells it solemnly to his Saturday school cohorts: “I taped Larry Lester’s buns together, and when the pulled the tape off, most of his hair came off, and some skin too.” CUE LAUGHTER AND ICONIC ’80s POP SONG!

“Carrie”

The Prank: Voting Carrie prom queen, then dumping pig’s blood on her
This one’s intense. It involves blood and straddles the line between “You guys got me good!” and “That was a real di** move. I’m now going to use my telekinetic powers to kill all of you!” When planning your own pranks, be sure they land in the safe zone–and don’t expose anyone to salmonella. Or at least may sure you’re not playing the prank on a misguided girl with superpowers.

“Revenge of the Nerds”

The Prank: Dressing up as Darth Vader to sleep with the otherwise unattainable cheerleader
Alpha nerd and protagonist Lewis Skolnick ends up wearing the same costume as his hated jock enemy, Stan. He uses the coincidence to trick head cheerleader, Betty (Stan’s girlfriend), into a dark funhouse and creepily forces himself on her. She totally goes for it and doesn’t get mad when she learns of the deception. In reality, this scene would end in pepper spray and handcuffs (not in a good way), because yeah, that’s rape.

“National Lampoon’s Van Wilder”

The Prank: Replacing doughnut cream filling with dog “cream”
This elaborately disgusting prank would certainly get you arrested if you were to give it a try, so don’t give it a try. Just appreciate it for what it is. Don’t make us spell it out.
