Mike Destefano, an often angry and always hilarious stand-up comic from the Bronx, died this weekend after suffering a heart attack. Mike came to stand-up late in life, starting only about 10 years ago. After spending most of that time struggling to get noticed, he broke out last year on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” where his acccerbic, dark humor was good enough for a fourth place finish.
In a statement, Destefano’s representative said: “We are indeed incredibly saddened by the loss of this amazing man. He had touched the lives of many with his unique brand of comedy and was looking forward to sharing the same with so many more. Mostly, we will all miss his huge heart and incredibly loving and selfless passion for people. Our friend Mike DeStefano passed away on March 6.”
Mike was HIV positive and had beat hard-core drug addiction, two things that he made funny despite being completely sad. Let’s remember Mike with funny stuff, though. Here are some videos of him being hilarious.
